A sprinkling of the wet stuff turned qualifying for the Sprint at the Chinese Grand Prix into a thriller, with Lando Norris taking a superb pole for McLaren with Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton completing an unusual front row.

The drivers and teams report back on Friday practice and Sprint Qualifying at the Shanghai International Circuit ahead of the Formula 1 Lenovo Chinese Grand Prix 2024.

A pumped up Zhou Guanyu delighted his home fans in Sprint Qualifying at the Shanghai International Circuit, making it through to the final segment – SQ3 – before taking P10, one place behind his Kick Sauber team mate Valtteri Bottas on a strong day for the Swiss team.

Carlos Sainz has explained how Ferrari failed to “switch on” their tyres when dry conditions were replaced by rain during the closing stages of Sprint Qualifying at the Chinese Grand Prix.
